ABOUT US

In response to the Philadelphia public schools running out of paper, the Philly Paper Jam (PPJ) program has been created. PPJ’s mission is to ensure 30 public elementary schools receive the paper they need for the 2016/2017 school year. As a city we can help solve this problem through awareness plus sponsorships from corporations, small businesses and individuals.

Every year, Philadelphia public schools run out of paper. While parents hold independent paper drives and teachers ration paper as much as possible, the alarming fact remains, that the majority of students finish every school year without paper in their classrooms.

"The paper problem in the Philadelphia School District is definitely an obstacle for teachers each day. We have to rely on our wonderful parents to supply our paper, and when that runs out, we dip into our own pockets. We try to conserve paper as much as possible by working in notebooks, double siding our work, reusing scrap paper, and having oral discussions rather than writing answers down; however, writing is a critical and developmental motor skill that needs to be practiced and honed. Students need to write, draw, and color to express themselves. They need to be able to create multiple drafts of products to ensure they learn how to edit and produce quality work. As teachers, we want the freedom to plan for our students needs and a not plan around our paper supply. Please help make this a reality at Bache-Martin!" -

"If I had more paper, I would print multiple books that students could bring home to practice reading without worrying they would get lost or damaged by a younger sibling. I would make multiple copies of students' best work for them to share with their family, friends, and the school community to celebrate."
